Out of 3165 Pledge Pages this site is: 3rd highest site for most money raised 5th most visited site There are currently an estimated 45,000 people in the U.S. living with a rare blood-related cancer known as multiple myeloma and next year an estimated 14,600 additional people will learn that they too will have to battle this devastating disease. This past year we became aware that David Linger, who is beloved by many, is one of those diagnosed with myeloma. David, a loving husband of 33 years, father of five, grandfather of two (and one on the way), pastor, counselor, and dear friend has many challenges ahead of him. On March 15, 2004 he learned that his cancer was going to require aggressive chemotherapy and stem cell transplants during the next six months. While these treatments could put David into remission, they are costly and insurance is not covering many of the expenses. Additionally, he must receive these treatments in Little Rock, Arkansas, which means extended periods of time away from family and friends and his Christian counseling business. Thus, on September 26, 2004 a group of friends and family will participate in the Disney International Distance Triathlon. We will be divided into teams of three with one person swimming .93 mi, one biking 24.8 mi, and one running 6.2 mi. Our goal is to complete the race and to raise $50,000 towards already enormous cancer-related expenses. Although this new and challenging experience will require much training, hard work, and dedication, we are very excited and looking forward to conquering the task. Training for the Disney Triathlon and collecting pledges is our way of supporting David through this difficult time and it is our hope that you too would consider giving him your support. We have set up this website so that you can check our progress in training, view photos, and read diary entries. You can also sign the guestbook with a note of encouragement for both David and the team. Most importantly, this website also allows for you to see how David is doing and to support him with a financial contribution. Any donation will make a huge difference and will be sincerely appreciated by David and our team as we help fight this cancer. Thank you in advance for your support and your prayers. Your kindness is much appreciated. "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us."
